A Refreshing Gin Cocktail with Koalatea Green
Hello tea lovers and cocktail enthusiasts! Today, we’re bringing a touch of elegance and refreshment to your gatherings with a lovely gin cocktail that showcases our Koalatea Green tea blend. Say hello to the Koalatea & G – a delightful and not too sweet elixir of tea, gin, and a splash of sparkling water. Perfect for Koalatea time with friends (sorry, couldn't resist!).
Ingredients (for 2 cocktails):
- 3 tsp Koalatea Green (more for stronger tea flavour)
- 120 ml (4 oz) water (80 C to 90 C)
- 120 ml (4 oz) ice (approximately) plus more for the cocktail shaker
- 60 ml (2 oz) gin
- 30 ml (1 oz) sparkling water (more if you want more sparkle!)
- 1.5 to 3 tsp agave nectar (adjust to taste)
- Fresh lemon slices and mint leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Start by heating 125 ml (4 oz) of water to a temperature between 80°C to 90°C. Avoid boiling water as it can scorch the green tea leaves and turn your tea (and your cocktail) bitter.
- Pour the hot water over 3 tsp Koalatea Green and let steep 4 minutes.
- Add the agave and stir. Adjust the agave nectar based on your sweetness preference.
- Strain the tea over 120 ml (4 oz) ice.
- In a cocktail shaker, add ice, the cooled tea and 60 ml (2 oz) gin.
- Shake vigorously for about 20 seconds to chill and thoroughly combine the ingredients.
- Find two beautiful glasses in the cupboard.
- Strain the gin and tea mixture evenly into each glass, leaving room for the sparkling water.
- Top off each glass with 30 ml (1 oz) of sparkling water, adding a little delightful fizz.
- Garnish each glass with a fresh lemon slice and a sprig of mint.
- Stir gently and enjoy your Koalatea & G cocktail, savouring the refreshingly light combination of botanicals and tangy tea essence.
Tips for the Perfect Koalatea & G:
- Quali(tea) Ingredients: Use a high-quality gin with delicate botanicals, this will let the tea sing through.
- Adjust Sweetness: Start with a smaller amount of agave and taste the cocktail before serving to check sweetness, adding more agave and re-shaking as required. You can always add but it's tough to remove!
- Experi(mint) with Garnishes: Try different types of mint (did you know there is a ginger mint?), cucumber, or even a bit of pickled ginger on a cocktail pick.
The Koalatea & G is a versatile cocktail that combines the health benefits of green tea with the classic appeal of gin, making it a perfect choice for tea enthusiasts and cocktail lovers alike. Whether you’re hosting a garden party or enjoying a simple, quiet cocktail hour, this refreshing elixir is sure to meet the mark.
