Q: Cocktails? Tell me more!
A:
If you prefer a tasty but not overly sweet cocktail, this tea makes a great base. I prefer to use a nice simple gin, one with a nice clean and crisp profile that will let the tea flavours shine. Think about adding a little sparkling water or a light tonic for a little fizz, and a touch of sweetener to cut the bitterness of the gin. Try our recipe for Koala Tea & G here.
Q: How much caffeine is in this blend?
A:
Caffeine content is greatly impacted by the “four T’s”: time, temperature, type, and (amount of) tea. Longer the steeping, higher temperature, and more tea means more caffeine, and vice versa. For Koalatea, I recommend a steeping time like black tea (about four minutes) to get the flavours out of the herbs but without getting too much bitter from the green tea. Keeping the temperature between 80 C and 90 C will also help avoid the bitter flavour and reduces the amount of caffeine extracted. The green tea in this blend is a beautiful rolled tea leaf so the caffeine will extract a little slower as the surface area per leaf is less (compared to your standard tea bag style). As for amount of tea, the blend is just over 40% green tea. All told, you can expect about half as much caffeine as if you had a cup of straight green tea.
Q: I've never had eucalyptus in tea before, what does it taste like?
A:
You’re in for a treat! Eucalyptus has a light menthol characteristic with some minty and herbal essence, sort of like bay leaves with undertones of mint and rosemary or sage. It sits absolutely brilliantly against the ginger and the lemon.
