Meant for Living
At Island Elixir Tea we love making a big pot and sharing. We talk about the flavour, share a story, and share an experience. This tall tea infuser makes the tea making and sharing easy. With long handles, it even rests across Bree's widest china teapot. The 9cm depth puts the basket down close to the bottom of the pot and gives ample space for up to 6 tsp of tea to expand beautifully.
If giant mugs like our Botanical Collection are more your speed, you'll appreciate the width and depth of the infuser here too.
And when the tea is on the table and the steeping done, the infuser's own lid acts as a convenient and beautiful drip tray so you can keep the conversation going, your pages turning, or your next row knitting.
Caution: The infuser lid can get quite hot. Use a tea towel or serviette to keep your fingers safe!
Caring for Your Tea Infuser
Although the finish is vacuum-plated and won't come off, we recommend hand washing your infuser to keep it looking beautiful. Use a cloth and warm, soapy water. A quick dry with your favourite tea towel and it's ready for the next pot. If there are better things to do and the leaves have dried, a quick soak in warm water will loosen them up for easy cleaning.
FAQ
FAQ
What is the tall tea infuser best used for?
The tall tea infuser is designed for brewing loose-leaf tea directly in teapots, large mugs, and tall glasses. Its height (9cm) works great for these deeper vessels and comfortably holds enough tea for your pot, allowing your tea leaves to expand fully and steep evenly. It's ideal for anyone who loves making a whole pot of quality loose-leaf tea but doesn't want the tea to turn bitter before they finish the pot. Since the lid acts as a drip tray, it can be removed and set aside until you're ready to re-steep. It's a simple, mess-free brewing accessory that makes loose leaf tea making so easy.
How big is it and what is it made of?
Height: 9 centimeters
Width (handle to handle): 12 centimeters
Material: Vacuum-plated stainless steel with a warm yellow-gold finish
Mesh: Fine-mesh design to prevent leaf sediment
Lid: Acts as a drip tray when removed
The compact footprint fits comfortably in teapots and tall mugs while the fine mesh keeps loose leaves contained during steeping.
What size mug or teapot do I need? Can I use it in any mug?
The infuser works best in teapots of any standard size and in mugs or glasses that are at least 9 centimeters tall (the same height as the infuser itself). This ensures leaves have room to expand and steep properly. If your mug is shorter than 9cm, the infuser handle may sit above the rim. it will still function, but the tall design is optimized for vessels of equal or greater height. For shorter vessels, you may prefer our Perfect Tea Infuser.
Will this infuser keep tea leaves out of my cup?
Yes! The fine-mesh design is specifically made to prevent tea leaf sediment and dust from escaping into your brew. This means no gritty particles at the bottom of your cup. Just clean, smooth tea from first sip to last.
How do I use the tall tea infuser?
1. Place the infuser in your teapot or tall mug.
2. Add loose-leaf tea. The amount depends on your tea type and taste preference but we recommend 1.5 tsp or 1 Perfect Scoop per cup water. Use a little less for long herbal tea steepings, a little more for strong, dark black tea steepings.
3. Pour hot water over the leaves. Use water temperature according to your tea type and preferred flavour. Lower temperature makes sweeter green and black teas, higher temperature makes strong herbals.
4. Let it steep for the recommended time for your tea variety and preference.
5. Lift out the infuser and place it on the lid, which doubles as a drip tray.
6. Enjoy your tea, then re-infuse!
The lid's dual purpose as a drip tray keeps your vessel and table clean while your tea finishes steeping.
How do I clean my tall tea infuser?
Hand wash with warm water after use while the leaves are still damp. Tap out the contents into the compost bin or a bucket for the garden (tea makes a great fertilizer for plants). Rinse upside-down to remove leaf particles, the fine mesh rinses easily. If you forget and the leaves dry, soak in lukewarm water for a few minutes. Dry thoroughly before storing.
Note: Hand wash only. Do not place in the dishwasher, as the vacuum-plated finish is best preserved with gentle hand care.
What types of tea work best with this infuser?
All loose-leaf teas work well, from white to black, rooibos, herbal, and blended varieties. The tall design gives leaves ample room to unfurl and release their flavour fully. Teas with larger leaf pieces, as well as finely chopped or ground blends, all steep evenly in this infuser.
Why choose a stainless steel infuser over mesh ball or closed basket styles?
Stainless steel infusers like this tall model offer several advantages:
1. Space: Full leaf teas and quality herbal blends will expand to 4 times their dry volume. The large infuser offers plenty of room for a full pot's worth of tea.
2. Durability: Stainless steel resists rust, staining, and wear over time and doesn't deform with frequent use like the soft mesh tea balls do. Bree and her family have been using the same infusers for more than three years - and that includes the teenagers! The infusers are still in great shape and still look as beautiful as their first day in the pot.
3. Beautiful aesthetics: The polished gold finish complement any kitchen or workspace and make teatime beautiful.
4. Easy to clean: Fine mesh doesn't trap particles the way some basket styles do
5. Temperature retention: Metal conducts heat efficiently, helping maintain water temperature during steeping. The lid keeps the tea surprisingly hot so it's still warm when the steeping is done and you are ready to kick back and enjoy your tea.
6. Eco-friendly: The most eco-friendly choice you can make is one that lasts. This infuser is built to last years, reducing the need for replacement infusers.
Can I use this infuser for herbal teas or blends too?
Absolutely. The fine-mesh design works with any loose-leaf tea or herbal blend. Herbal infusions often contain a mix of leaf sizes and flower petals. The tall design gives them room to move and steep evenly, while the mesh keeps particles out of your cup.
How long will this infuser last?
Stainless steel is built for longevity. With proper hand care, this infuser will serve you for years. The vacuum-plated finish, preserved through hand washing, maintains its appearance and function over time. Many tea enthusiasts consider a quality stainless steel infuser a one-time investment.
