Q&A with Bree, founder and tea artist
Q: I like really strong tea. How do you recommend preparing it?
A:
To make super strong tea, you have options. Either increase the amount of tea that use - say 3 tsp or 2 scoops per cup water - or, increase your steeping time to 10, 15, 20 minutes or beyond. Have a sip now and then to see if it's 'ready'. If you want to be able to have a 2nd infusion of the tea, then go for the more tea, regular time route but it really is rather delicious after a good long steep.
Q: Does the lemongrass really stand out?
A:
Absolutely. The lemongrass that we use for this tea has a nice strong flavour and a buttery character. There’s a little zip in it as well that allows it to hold its own against the peppermint and spearmint in the blend. Lovers of mild Thai foods that feature lemongrass are sure to find that flavour very enticing here.
Q: Can kids drink this tea?
A:
Yes, I always encourage parents and care-givers of children to introduce them to tea early on so that they default to tea for health and emotional benefits throughout their lives. Mint Loves Lemongrass is totally suitable as they grow and great to put in a water bottle and take to school or day care! Since the flavours are quite strong, unless you have a young foodie on your hands, I suggest cutting the tea with plain water according to size or age. As a general guide, for two to five years, ¼ tea to ¾ water, five to 8 ½ and ½, 8 to 11 ¾ to ¼, and then from 12 they’re typically ready for full strength.
